Leena Kopperoinen is a Senior Researcher at the Finnish Environment Institute (SYKE), specializing in the development of methods for sustainable urban and spatial planning. Her work focuses particularly on integrating ecosystem services and green infrastructure into the built environment and land use planning, as well as applying GIS-based approaches to assess the sustainability of land use and ecosystem services.
Ieva Misiune is an associate professor at the Institute of Geosciences, Vilnius University, Lithuania. She is a researcher with expertise in green infrastructure and social-ecological systems. Her research interests focus on nature values, people’s perceptions, and their habits related to the use of urban green areas.
Edyta Łaszkiewicz is a social scientist specializing in human geography and ecological economics. She works as an Associate Professor at the University of Lodz, where she leads the Social-Ecological Systems Analysis Lab. She is the author or co-author of over 60 scientific publications and serves as an Associate Editor of Urban Forestry and Urban Greening. She has participated in multiple national and international research projects funded by Biodiversa, Horizon 2020, the Interreg Central Baltic Programme, and the National Science Centre in Poland. Edyta is deeply fascinated by how people perceive and value nature, particularly in urban contexts. Her research focuses on developing and applying GIS-based methods for spatially explicit social and environmental data to better understand human–nature relations, with a focus on environmental justice, green space provision, active mobility and urban planning.
Zbigniew Szkop is an Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Economic Sciences, University of Warsaw, and Director of the Warsaw Ecological Economics Centre. His research focuses on ecological economics and the economic valuation of ecosystem services, especially in urban greenery. He has managed several major projects funded by the European Commission, the National Science Center Poland, the National Centre for Research and Development, and the EEA and Norway Grants, and contributed to multiple others. Author of more than a dozen scientific publications, he also engages in science communication through the website ekonomiadlasrodowiska.pl, a TEDx talk, and frequent media contributions. He closely collaborates with the USDA Forest Service team developing the i-Tree tools, incorporating them into trainings and teaching at the University of Warsaw. His international research stays include the Technical University of Dresden/IHI Zittau, the Technical University of Berlin, the Institute for Ecological Economy Research (IOW) in Berlin, the University of Glasgow, and the USDA Forest Service offices in Philadelphia and Syracuse. In 2023, he received an honorable mention in the “Climate Man of the Year” competition organized by the Ministry of Climate and Environment of Poland in the “Young Scientist” category.
